What Is Recycling 3E’s?
Energy, Economy, and Environment
Recycling has many benefits for economic and environmental since recycling has begun it has reduced the need
for landfill space dramatically; reduced emissions; reduced water and energy consumption; and also saves
natural resources. All of these has a great impact on the community.
Recycling Reduces Energy Use
Saving energy is a very important environmental benefit of recycling because using energy requires consumption
of scarce of fossil fuels and emissions of numerous air and water contaminations. These steps supply recycling
materials to industry use. Turning off your unused lights or unplugging electronic devices are simple and easy
way to save energy but the important things it to simply reduce waste by recycling.
When we recycle we reduce the energy consumed by creating new products. This reduced energy consumption lowers
a community’s green house gas emissions and lowers the overall impact of climate change in Minnesota and
throughout the world.
• Recycled paper saves 60 percent energy against the virgin paper.
•17 trees and 7,000 gallons of water can be save by recycling one tons of paper.
• Production of recycled paper uses 80 percent less water, 65 percent less energy and produces 95
percent less air pollution than virgin paper production.
• To light a 100-watt bulb for four hours saves enough energy through recycling one glass of
container.
• 95 percent pollution reduces due to recycled aluminum.
For our economy recycling is important
Less greenhouse gas emissions means less energy used from recycled materials and this in turn help prevent
global climate change. Air and water pollutions are also greatly reduced because the process of turning virgin
materials into products generates more pollution than producing recycled materials.
By converting waste into valuable products, recycling creates jobs, contributes feedstock to manufacturing, and adds significant value to the entire malaysia economy.
• At present, the per capita generation of solid waste in Malaysia varies
from 0.45 to 2kg/day depending on the economic status of an area. In general, the per capital
generation rate is about 1kg/day. Even though 17,000 tonnes/day of solid waste is being generated,
only 5% is being recycled. If this particular scenario continues without appropriate
mitigation, Malaysia will be facing a serious problem in municipal solid waste management.
• Government has targeted 25% of waste to be recycled by 2020.
• Our recyclable material has tremendous economic value. The 1 million tons of material which could be recycled has an estimated value of RM1000 million. It costs Minnesotans RM720 million to
throw it away.
• The recycling industry directly and indirectly supports approximately 80,000 jobs in the
countries; paying an estimated RM 11 billion in wages and adding nearly RM43 billion to the state’s economy.
Recycling is important for our environment.
Less energy used to produce new product from recycled materials means less greenhouse gas emissions and this in turn help prevent global climate change. Also, air and water pollutants are greatly reduced because the
process of turning virgin materials into products generates more pollutants than producing the products from
recycling material.
• In 2006 the impact of residential recycling efforts saved 46 trillion of
energy-this equates to enough energy to power all of the homes for a year!
• There is still an estimated 1.3 million tons of waste generated which could have been recycled.
• By reducing the amount of energy needed to create products from raw materials, we reduce the
amount of fossil fuels burned. This translates into reduced greenhouse gas production, reduced
impact on global warming, cleaner water resources, and reduced water consumption.
Recycle encourages you to recycle more, for the impact really is exponential.
