It can be difficult and confusing sometimes to know whether you are following all the recycling rules. To be able to help your efforts by learning some recycling etiquette rules here are some things you would like to check out which type of collection are done in different ways.

Etiquette Rules: How can I improve the way I recycle?

To reduce pollution and to improve recycling efficiency, wash and crush!

Wash
• Clean out any food remains/pour away.
• Rinse the containers.
• In the dishwasher do not put recyclable water to achieve an unnecessary level of cleanliness.

Crush
• Crush the metal cans.
• To expel as much air as possible squeeze the plastic bottles flat.

This steps may help prevent pollution and reduce the volume of recyclable energy efficient.

What about lids, rings and labels?
It is great if you can remove the labels and lids from glass jars and bottles but you don't need to worry about it since during the recycling process the items are being washed and after crushing any non-glass objects are removed.

Alternatively removing the caps and lids from plastic containers is more important. Too many lids will pollute the load so remove and throw away plastic caps because they are often made from a different polymer type, and so they have a different melting point compared to the plastic used for the bottle.

From your papers remove paper clips, staples and plastic envelope window and also remove excessive amounts of tape and labeling from cardboard packaging.

Can I recycle soiled paper?
If the paper fibers are contaminated with food they cannot be recycled. Here are a few suggestions:
   • Into your compost/main rubbish put greasy wrappers.
   • Remove the contaminated parts and recycle the clean remainder.

Why different areas recycle and collect in different ways?
Changing seems endless, and it's due to the following:

• Expense
   – To be able to stick to established recycling process in investment,
      recycling facilities are expensive.
• Goals
   – Lawful recycling targets are being weight-based, shifting focus
onto heavier waste stream such as glass, metal can lighten the
      expenses.
• Plans
   – In urban areas and in rural areas collecting things can be
      problematic.
• No nationwide scheme
   – There is still a lack of government guidance in industry bodies,
charities and campaign groups that encourages best practice.

What's in your rubbish bin?
There are still a large percentage of household's still do not recycle enough and throw everything that they consider rubbish into their trash bin.

Most of this waste materials can be recycled and disposed separately to general household waste. To see how much of the contents should actually have been recycled, look inside this rubbish bin to see it. How to
recycle different materials, check our list.
