Kitchen Tips
Economical Washing and Drying
Washing machines and tumble dryers are two appliances in your home that use most of the energy. To be able to
save energy and money you can make some changes to how you use them.
When you have a full load of laundries to wash then use the machine, but if you only have few things to wash
use the half load function to save energy consumption. More energy is used when the spin on the machine use
more energy to remove excess water on your clothes so reduce your drying time in a tumble dryer.
Another useful tip is that dropping the water temperature of your wash could significantly decrease your energy consumption. By using warm wash you would be able to cut nearly half of the consumption.
Fix a Dripping Tap
When the tap is having a problem fix it right away to save you from both water costs and water heating costs.
If it is left to drip, after a while the water will fill half a bath and the water will become a waste.
Efficient Cooking
To save energy there are a few easy ways when cooking always use the correct pan size, and when heating water
only use the necessary amount of heat. When boiling water putting a lid on will help boil the water quicker and only boil the necessary amount of water to save electricity.
Fridge and Freezer
Where you locate the fridge can make a difference in how efficient the energy is. When you locate the fridge
always place a few inches space all around so that the air can circulate and it is best to keep it against the
outside wall so that the heat it generates can escape easily. Do not place it too close to the oven and to
place it out of direct sunlight.
Avoid putting warm or hot food into the fridge because this will cause the fridge to work harder to keep it
cold; always allow foods to cool down first. Always remember to defrost your fridge and freezer whenever it is
possible even on a regular basis. Only set your fridge at a rate that is cold enough and avoid keeping the door open for a long period of time and always check the seal regularly, as if it is damaged then cold air will be
escaping as well.
